Louise Ann McLellan Cornwall's 2007 Citizen of the Year |
The Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards is a Cornwall tradition that began in 1988. The Awards were created to recognize outstanding achievements by Cornwall area businesses and individuals in the fields of commerce, community work and/or innovation. The awards ceremony, coupled with the presentation of the Citizen of Year award, has quickly evolved into one of the City's more prestigious annual affairs.
A community is driven by many things with one of its key engines being business and industry. The City of Cornwall and area has gained recognition across Canada and indeed, the world for its progressive and professional business and industrial sector.
The area has become a significant force in the global economy. From manufacturing to services, from plastics to high tech, local firms compete in markets around the world. They do so with a commitment to excellence wherever and whatever the marketplace.
Each year, the Chamber Board appoints an Awards Nomination Committee. Nominations are solicited from the community in late fall and the Committee ultimately selects a winner in each category. The Awards banquet is usually held in February.
